Patients are reminded that GP surgeries are open as normal on Friday and NHS services are available across New Year

JOINTLY ISSUED BY TELFORD & WREKIN AND SHROPSHIRE CCGs

Patients in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin are reminded that GP surgeries are open as normal on Friday. There is a range of help available on New Year’s Day and over the following weekend for urgent medical problems.

The local out of hours service Shropdoc has been very busy over the 4 day Christmas holiday and they are concerned that the public may think that Friday 2nd January is also a Bank Holiday.

Dr Gill Clements of Shropdoc said: “In the past we have been aware that the public are not always sure when their GP surgery is open at this time of the year.”

“I would like to reiterate that all GP surgeries are open on Friday 2nd January. Shropdoc will however provide urgent medical care on New Year’s Day and over the weekend - for problems that can’t wait until your GP surgery is next open. Pharmacies are also a good source of advice for minor conditions and they can issue emergency repeat prescriptions– see www.shropdoc.org.uk for opening hours.”

A full list of local services available over the New Year period throughout Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin is attached.
