Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) is based on a call centre model where patients from more than one GP practice in Telford and Wrekin can telephone prescription requests to a central location. POD is part of the Medicines Management Team, which incorporates pharmaceutical advisors and pharmacy technicians. The service was initially formed to support a reduction in the large volume of waste medication created by over ordering of repeat prescriptions and the potential risk of hoarding medications by the patient, which could be harmful.
The Prescription Ordering Direct team members are not just telephone call handlers! They are a group of staff committed to supporting, helping and caring for the patients of Telford and Wrekin that use the service.
The teams’ focus is to support all patients with their prescription order. They often go above and beyond the call of duty and at times, they can be the only contact some patients have! On a daily basis the team endeavour to make sure that each and every patient is managing their medicines safely and correctly.
