Urgent Treatment Centre – Phase one Pre-procurement
In the NHS Five Year Forward View, Urgent and Emergency Care was identified as one of the NHS’s main improvement priorities, with a focus on improving national A&E performance whilst making access to services clearer for patients.
As part of this, the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) (Shropshire and Telford & Wre4kin) are required to commission an ‘Urgent Treatment Centre’ (UTC) that offers a set of nationally mandated core services and standards by December 2019.
As the current contracts for the GP led urgent care service, co-located in the A&Es in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, are coming to an end a decision has been made by both CCGs to go out to a joint procurement for the new UTC service. The UTC service will offer a similar but enhanced delivery model to the current service offer.
In January/February 2019 the CCGs developed a Communication and Engagement Plan which identified how they would engage with local patients who have accessed the services recently. An informal survey was held for a two week period. They used an existing resource from NHS England called “What Matters to You”. The survey was available in the reception area of the current facilities and were then collected at the end of the two week period.
The results of the survey were presented to the Assuring Involvement Committee in September 2019.
