Patients are being reminded that there is going to be plenty of help available to deal with minor illness and injury this August Bank Holiday.
The August Bank Holiday is normally a very busy time for the NHS, especially if the weather is good and families try and make the most of what’s left of the summer holidays before school restarts.
It puts pressure on services like A&E. But a local pharmacy or Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) can deal with many minor conditions.
There are MIUs at Ludlow, Whitchurch, Oswestry and Bridgnorth. They can deal with conditions like:
Cuts and lacerations
Fractures that require a plaster
Minor burns and scalds
Minor head injuries where the patient has remained conscious
Pharmacies can help with a range of common conditions and minor injuries, such as aches and pains, cystitis, colds and skin rashes. They can also help with repeat prescriptions.
999 calls and A&E are for emergencies. For anything else you can call NHS 111.
