Education

Events are co-ordinated by our GP Tutors – Dr Melanie Abey and Dr Caroline Freeman.

PLT (Protected Learning Time) events – allow practices to close for afternoon training with Shropdoc cover.

In house PLT: allow practices to set their own training agenda including, for instance significant events, conflict resolution, CPR, chaperone training, blue stream modules.

External PLT: afternoon events are offered to all clinicians (GP’s and Practice Nurses) in practices in T&W CCG. The topics are chosen according to GP’s educational needs from their appraisal PDPs with CCG priorities in mind.

Since 2008 these have included respiratory, cardiology, dermatology, paediatrics, musculo-skeletal medicine, mental health, women’s health, safeguarding and end of life care.

PLT documents can be found here.

TMPA (Telford Medical Practitioner’s Association) – evening clinical meetings (now not pharmaceutical sponsored)

LUSH (Local United Sexual Health) – local forum of GP’s meeting every 1 – 2 months on contraception/sexual health

Telford and Wrekin CCG do not accept pharmaceutical company sponsorship for any events. We want to make available a wide range of events on the calendar, many of which are arranged by other bodies and may have sponsorship. Inclusion of such events on the calendar does not imply any change in policy on behalf of the CCG and clinicians are advised to follow their own conscience when deciding whether to attend or to accept hospitality, in line with guidance from the GMC.
