Adult safeguarding practice questions

As a commissioning organisation Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group fully recognises its statutory responsibilities in relation to Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.  This documents gives a brief overview of the Act.
The Law Society (2015) Deprivation of liberty: a practical guide. 9 April 2015.

This guidance is specifically aimed at members and partners of local panels involved in the Channel process. The list of partners of local panels subject to the provision can be found in Schedule 7 of the CT&S Act (also replicated in within Annex B of this guidance). The Channel Police Practitioner and the Local Authority Chair are key participants in the Channel process; developing a strong working relationship between partners is vital to the success of Channel.

“The threat from online radicalisation is an increasing and significant area of work for Prevent. The Prevent Tragedies website alongside our broader Prevent online radicalisation strategy has an important role to play in helping us address the challenges we face.

The site has been developed in collaboration with NCTPHQ Strategic Communications to compliment our Syria campaign activity and is designed to provide a portal for Prevent publicity and engagement materials developed for the public by police and key partners.

The Prevent Tragedies website forms part of a wider strategy to the online threat and has the ability to play a crucial role in helping us and our partners provide communities with information, help and support about radicalisation in a way that is easily accessible.

Included on the site are useful contacts, resources, tweets, latest news and questionnaires and a link to report inappropriate material.  It has the functionality to be used locally to support your regional initiatives.

The website is intentionally not branded as a police resource to encourage its use by partners as well as police. “

Domestic Abuse

that may be able to help you. Agencies in Telford and Wrekin are committed to working together to help those who are or have experienced Domestic Abuse. Local and national numbers have been included in the directory to provide you with as much help as possible.

Children Safeguarding

Child Death Overview Panel

Since 1st April 2008, Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCB) have had a statutory responsibility to review all deaths of children from birth (excluding still born babies and planned terminations) up to 18 years, who are normally resident in their area. The duties of the LSCB regarding these processes are set out in Chapter 5 of Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government 2018).

The joint Shropshire / Telford & Wrekin Child Death Overview Panel (including representatives from Social Care, Health, Police, Public Health and local Children’s Hospice) continues to monitor and review all child deaths on behalf of both LSCBs. Reviewing child deaths includes collecting information about the circumstances of the child’s death and family background, with the overall purpose to understand how and why children die, make recommendations to protect other children and to prevent future deaths. In the West Mercia area there will be two CDOPs (Shropshire/Telford and Wrekin and Herefordshire/Worcestershire) with a wider West Mercia approach to thematic discussions to consider learning from the independent reviews undertaken.

For sudden and unexpected deaths a co-ordinated, multi-agency Rapid Response is initiated to ensure safeguarding and public health issues are considered.
